For the very first time in the West (correct me if I’m wrong), a book on japanese director Koji Wakamatsu will be published, in France, on November 26th – just when the retrospective begins! So, this book is 200 pages, and includes 15 translated essays written by Wakamatsu himself!
He shares his thoughts on the Japanese Film Industry in the 60s & and the 80s, explains why pinku-eiga are so interesting (at least, when it’s still an underground film genre), tells his Palestine story & his early life… And much more! There’s also a career interview (by Go Hirasawa), one french analysis, plus one essay by Nagisa Oshima saying how much he admires Wakamatsu. All in french.
The book will be sold with the film The Woman Who Wanted To Die (1970, directed 1/2months after Mishima’s suicide but then banned in Japan!). Check for more details, and here’s one review (nice pics). Again, it’s all in french.
