I think that Japanese Film Blogathon is a very interesting and useful idea.
My favorites eras in Japanese movies are the ’50s and the preent era. My favorite genre is comedy.
One J-Film to rule them all are …. two: Suna no onna by Teshigahara Hiroshi and Yawarakana seikatsu by Hiroki Ryuichi
Franco Picollo
Yes! This will be great! I’d love to get back to a couple of my favorites, and watch them with a more critical eye!

And because cinema is not only about image, here’s a jazzy OST of a classic Kitano movie:

Sword of Desperation review – http://www.variedcelluloid.net/vcinema/?p=906
Also, would it be cheating for me to include the last episode of our podcast? We released it last week, but it’s both relevant and timely since it’s a memorial to Satoshi Kon and Kihachiro Kawamoto. If you don’t want to include it, that’s OK, but here’s the link if you do: http://www.variedcelluloid.net/vcinema/?p=830
Ohh feature us!
I Saw the Devil review – http://japancinema.net/2010/11/03/i-saw-the-devil-review/

Think you better re-read the name of the event, JapanCinema…
Not sure my feature will be ready in time .. anyway, just found a great “Japanese Film Noir” stills album
http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=78836&id=94216902088
(seems Pat has forgotten, again, to name the event on his blog ..)
ahh .. just saw he added a note ^^
Apparently, the galleryt features films screened in San-Sebastian 2 years ago
http://www.enews.ma/japanese-film-noir_i87235_5.html
(not really a surprise ..only big foreign event could force Japanese major to share visuals buried in their archive!)
And I think I better remember why I came here to post. Duh

“Also, would it be cheating for me to include the last episode of our podcast?”
It’s sharing, not cheating ^__^
Hope this can make it for the November 4th entries! A tribute to the work of Joe Hisaishi and Takeshi Kitano…

Gonna leave the comment here, there’s an issue with the variedcelluloid.net website – it crashes my browser every time I let it load. I think it’s got to do with the Quicktime file loading.
Here’s a review I did of “Beat” Takeshi’s Kikujiro

Hey Amy,
Sorry you’re having problems. We don’t have anything that uses QT directly, but it might be the podcast player on the site that’s causing you problems. Unfortunately, we can’t really disable it since the podcast is our bread and butter, so to speak. Could you try entering the site from the URL http://vcinemashow.com/ and see if that works. Doubt that it will, but it’s worth a shot.
If that doesn’t work and you really want to check out the reviews, let me know and I’ll see if there’s anything that I can do on my side.
