A good story from Japan Times about ‘The Sun That Doesn’t Set‘ starring Ken Watanabe. It appears, the film didn’t have such good promotion before its theatrical release (oct ’09), few tv channels supported the film when usually, blockbusters don’t have that kind of problem.
So why? This film is about a man trying to reform a national airline, it’s based on a popular novel which is a fictionalized version of the 1985 plane crash of Japan Airlines. And of course, in reality, Japan Airlines doesn’t like this publicity (by the way, the film took many years to be finally made). Powerful enough, the company contacted all major media to explain what they should do.
But, it must be said the film wasn’t co-produced by some major media-companies, reducing automatically tv promotion. Also, the crisis is still here, and all these companies need the ad income. Money, money, money…
