In this article (fr), Dooliblog shared 4 ways to watch korean classics. Here’s the translation, of his ideas, to be completed of course:
# Internet
The easiest way, it’s internet. Oldies are starting to get released on english-friendly DVDs; for example, a Kim Ki Young’s boxset 4 films. More can be found on Yesasia.
# Korean Cultural Centers
There are several Korean Cultural Centers around the world (New York, London, Paris…), and they all offer a great collection of rare films! Contact your nearest center to know if you can borrow/watch these DVDs/VHS.
# Film Festivals/Retrospectives
London, Paris… Korean Film Festivals do exist. Eventually, some classics are scheduled and you’re lucky to discover brand-new prints. In most cases, these films aren’t even (yet) available anywhere else.
# VOD (Video On Demand)
Internet’s great. Several websites like KMDB have a VOD section, with lots of classics. BUT, bad points, it’s not subbed & you can’t pay if you’re not in South Korea. If your bandwidth allows it (>8Mbps), you can still try their free viewings. Much better, TheAuteurs let you watch Kim Ki-young’s The Housemaid for free! Let’s hope they’ll add more soon?
