Chinese Mob Vs. Yakuzas

Remember Derek Yee’s Shinjuku Incident? With Jackie Chan playing an illegal chinese immigrant coming in Japan to become an assassin for the Tokyo underworld? Showing tensions between the chinese community and yakuzas.

Well, it was no joke! Japanese newspapers Asahi published an article about how the Chinese Mob is slowly taken over Yakuzas, an international crime organization with no code facing japanese old-school gangsters (article translated in french).

That would make a really good story for a yakuza-eiga, and it’d be interesting to see if this reality is going to influence Japanese films (so far, I can only name Yee’s film, any suggestions?). Even though, it could fall into “nihon-for-the-win” kind of message.

Thx Yoann

There are a lot of Japanese Yakuza films that have dealt with Chinese gangsters. It was an especially common theme to see in the 90’s, i.e, Miike’s Black Society Trilogy. Others examples include Sleepless Town, the first Maiku Hama film–Starway to a Distant Past, and countless V-cinema flicks.
