Bong Joon-ho’s Mother took 1.03 admissions from 756 cinemas in its first 4 days. According to Screendaily, it’s the biggest opening this year in South Korea.
I was surprised to learn that while at Cannes, Bong Joon-ho said he wanted to do Mother long before The Host, and he wasn’t really satisfied with The Host being the biggest success in South Korea, hoping another movie will beat it. Well, Mother isn’t a blockbuster type of film, but it’s working great (again!), despite what the director hoped. Pretty funny, right?

I really enjoyed The Host, but I still didn’t get all the fuzz. However, I’m really looking forward to Mother ^^
