A boy on the northern island of Hokkaido, Japan catches a butterfly from Nagasaki, at the southern end of the archipelago. Silence Has No Wings is described as “an experience of cinema”, mixing different genres with symbolism. Director Kazuo Kuroki said he intended to make a political film but that the poetry used to cover his message had took over. An article about the film (pdf), and an interview with the director.
