For all the non-french readers, here’s news from the Land of France !
In a recent interview, Manuel Chiche (WSV CEO) gave some interesting infos :
1 – The DVD market is in a bad situation which isn’t great for the specialized movies. Why ? His reasons are “too much piracy, the “everything free”-spirit, the fun side”.
2 – That’s why, WVS decided to make an exclusive deal with FNAC, a large renown retailer. That way, the WSV collection will always be available somewhere near your home, and of course, the collection will be more visible (some indies retailers are already quite angry, vive la france)
3 – Also, he talked about Hitokiri, Hideo Gosha’s masterpiece. You’ll be surprised to learn it didn’t sell well at all… According to Manuel Chiche, no more than 2000 pieces were sold (!!).
4 – At least a great news ! In 2009, WSV is going to release around 30 Roman pornos in a new sub-collection called “The Golden Age of Roman Porno”. No titles announced but expect some “spicy movies”.
5 – Three north korean movies are planned for 2009 : The Flower Girl, A Bellflower, The Tale of Chun Hyang (any advices?).
6 – The 36th chamber of Shaolin and the One-armed swordsman trilogy could be release in Blu-ray next year.
That’s all folks! Stay tuned for more news!
And of course, feel free to correct me!

Thanks for the translation. Those Nikkatsu titles sound interesting. I really hope they manage to pick some films that haven’t been released on R2J.
Sad to hear Hitokiri didn’t sell that well. It’s a great film and a great dvd. Actually, I wish Wild Side had been responsible for all French Gosha dvds as I think their transfers are generally much better than those of HK Video’s.
