From the director of noir mystery film Zero Focus, Yoshitaro Nomura, who successfully combines different genres together while delivering a social commentary about Japan. Always pointing out taboos in the most effective & entertaining manner.
The Stakeout (aka The Chase) follows the investigation of two cops from Tokyo going to the countryside to look for the murderer of a bookmaker. While waiting for him to show up at his ex-lover’s place, the coppers keep an eye on the woman (Hideko Takamine), only to discover her hard daily life as a japanese woman… In other words, a suspense thriller where characters are suffering from a situation they can’t change, the woman and her duties as a housewife, the endless wait for the cops — the first seconds of the trailer are amazing. And course, it’s beautifully shot!
