# Japanese Movies,News3 Comments

Kurosawa’s Way is a new documentary on Akira kurosawa, directed by his former assistant & translator, Catherine Cadou. In which, she’s trying to see how Kurosawa has influenced generations of filmmakers, and thus, what is Kurosawa’s impact on today’s Cinema.

Eleven directors accepted to share their thoughts & personal (“unseen”) accounts on A.K for this doc. Who are they? Bernardo Bertolucci, Julie Taymor, Théo Angelopoulos, Alejandro-Gonzales Inarritu, Abbas Kiarostami, Shin’ya Tsukamoto, Hayao Miyazaki, John Woo, Martin Scorsese, Clint Eastwood and finally, Bong Joon-ho.

Updated on May 11 – Added 3 clips!

In the first clip, Cadou speaks of her personal relationship with Kurosawa, later, she will supposedly make parallels between her assistant’s experience and what the 11 directors are saying.

In the 2 other clips, it’s Cadou interviewing the famous directors, with Scorsese pointing out the editing job of Seven Samurai, and Taymor-Inarritu-Angelopoulos talking about the inventive narrative structure (of Rashomon).

Could be worthwhile, even though it’s only 52-min long! The documentary is part of Cannes Classics 2011 selection, the documentary will be aired on french TV channel Ciné+ Classic, September 30th @ 8pm. Check the Facebook fanpage.

Awesome! Thanks so much for posting this. 52 minutes – sounds like it’s been edited to sell to TV stations. I hope someone like arte snaps it up so we can watch it soon!
