The Sorcerer is Teinosuke Kinugasa’s second to final film, a director widely known for his masterpiece “Page of Madness”. Starring Raizo Ichikawa as the “esoteric priest” of the title, involved in a taboo romance with the bedridden Empress. The story seems to be based on an old japanese historical tale.
And this looks stunning, said to be one of the very best Ichikawa’s film.
