When it was about pointing or showing real social problems-dramas, documentarist Noriaki Tsuchimoto (1923-2008) was maybe among the best of his times. Socially committed, he gave visual screen presence to the forgotten people of Japan, those who suffer without being seriously heard by the authorities (read this interview).
And thanks to Zakka Films, that’s something you can now freely check by yourself as 4 of Tsuchimoto’s documentaries have just been released on english-friendly, region-free dvds; Minamata, On The Road, Traces: The Kabul Museum, Another Afghanistan: Kabul Diary.
