The Last Samurai who strode across the dawn of Japan

Do you remember Ken Ogata’s character in Kenji Misumi’s magnificient The Last Samurai? That’s was Hanjiro Nakamura, one of the four best-known assassins of the end of the samurai era. And in 2010, he was the subject of a new film called Hanjiro (aka The Last Samurai who…) directed by Sho Igarashi, who’s been doing historical biopic for some years now.

The lead actor is certainly not Ogata, most actors seems to be “TV-dramacting” and as you’re about to discover, the trailer is terrible (editing-wise), But still, I’d be really curious to see how Igarashi portrayed this troubled (and fascinating) time. The film opened in Japan on October 9, 2010. And the film was screened in Chicago late January ’11. Anyone already saw it?
