Bong Joon Ho’s latest film, Mother, is coming out in France late January ’10. So, the french poster has surfaced online. And I’m really wondering what happened there?
Why they didn’t keep the korean theatrical poster, which at least gives us some ideas about the film; a thriller, an ambiguious mother-son relationship… Something appealing!
Unlike the french poster, which looks like a boring cliché auteur film about an elderly woman questioning life or something like that…? Seriously, this is genre film, they should try to promote it that way. They really want people to watch it, or what?!?

I don’t really see the point in opposing genre films and auteur films.
Can’t films be both?
Or better, can’t Mother be just a great film?
One that does not need to be put into a category?
That said, I do like the Korean poster better.
Who is trying to sell a movie based on the author’s name with a poster (made by a 7 y.o kid) that looks like this?
Who is making the difference?
EDIT: (Just for fun), the same distributor is also releasing ‘A Brand New Life’;
to be fair to them most Korean posters suck, and are result of a photoshoot and look nothing like what is in the movie.
The issue here is that the Madeo French poster is subpar. The still is boring, and the typography is hideous… and everything is centered =.=
