The ‘Screaming Philosopher’ is the japanese musician Kazuki Tomokawa who refused Sakamoto’s role in Oshima’s Merry Christmas for a history of northern accent, he composed soundtracks for Takashi Miike & Koji Wakamatsu…
And the cool thing is, a french filmmaker, Vincent Moon (who made video clips for several famous artists) went in Japan (invited by a fan!!!) to make a portrait of Tomokawa. It’s called “La Faute des Fleurs” (Flowers’ fault) & it’s just won an award!
About it Vincent Moon said “Two weeks in Japan, in the company of Kazuki Tomokawa, change a life (…) just to experience the man live his daily life (…). And radical in his approach to life and to the creation (…)“. And while working on the film, the japanese translator suddenly burst into tears because “it’s the way he speaks… he is like a poem“. Interesting, right?
Watch some stills & a video session with Tomokawa:
Now you understand why he’s called the ‘Screaming Philosopher’!
