Remember Joe Shishido? He’s best known in the West for having played in several Seijun Suzuki films such as Branded to kill (1967). And guess what, he’s still active! While promoting his last film, The Code (which also stars Hiroki Matsukata, seen in many Fukasaku’s), he said:
• Film’s the greatest entertainment of the 20th century. It’s on the wane a bit, but it’ll be fine as long as I’m alive!
• I don’t mind quiet films [like Okuribito], but I prefer big action movies with Akira [Kobayashi], Yujiro [Ishihara], Tony [Akagi Keiichiro] and a little bit of me.
That’s why we love him, right?
